2009 Scholarship Programs
Objectives
SPE Thailand Section provides technical and financial support to students studying Petroleum Engineering, Geoscience, and other technical programs leading to career in the petroleum exploration and production industry.
The chapter also promotes student mentoring through the many experienced members and also actively encourages students to participate in section activities as well as being masters of their own activity initiatives.
Scholarships are supported by the SPE Thailand Foundation. Awards have been made to several academic institutions in the Kingdom of Thailand.
The 2009-2010 Program has been enhanced to align the scholarship program with other initiatives of SPE Thailand - technology support, mentorship, and other development programs initiated either by SPE or the students. Specifically for scholarship program, the size of the awards has been increased to raise the visibility of opportunities available through career within the industry, and the engagement between SPE and the recipients will also be emphasized. This effort in turn will ensure the industry maintain strong partnership with the universities for access to and development of the emerging talents that will form the core of the industry in the years to come.
2009 Scholarship
SPE Thailand will support two scholarships for students studying in their third year on a Bachelor in the degree of petroleum engineering, geoscience, and other technical programs leading to career in the petroleum exploration and production industry.
Each scholarship will be 120,000 Baht per year, dispensed in two equal installments. SPE Thailand will continue to maintain the scholarship program to sustain the engagement between the industry and the universities. The Program can expand subject to the Board of Directors’ consideration.
Application
Application forms are available from the SPE Thailand website. Submittal of the completed form and other required documentation must be made through the website.

The deadline for submission is 30th June, 2009
Selection
Selection will be made by the Board of Directors of PSE Thailand. Selection process will include application review and screening, and may require shortlisted candidates to participate in an interview. Results will be communicated on the SPE Thailand website and directly with the scholarship recipients.
Qualifications for Submitting Scholarship
- Studying in the third year of a full-time relevant Bachelor degree
- Student must have a good academic standing
- Show an interest to engage in SPE activities
- Demonstrate a need for additional financial support or show a plan to utilize the scholarship for maximum benefits

Conditions if Awarded Scholarship
- The scholarship requires a satisfactory grade point average to be achieved by the recipient.
- Each recipient will be assigned a mentor from the industry. Active engagements with the mentor is considered a critical factor driving the success of the scholarship program. With the engagement, the recipients will benefit from advice and guidance of the mentors and will also learn of and can participate in additional opportunities from the industry including internship, topics for senior project, student paper contest, seminars and field trips.
- Along with active communcaiton with the mentor, recipients are encouraged to share their experience with the SPE Thailand Student Chapters, the Board of Directors of SPE Thailand, and their fellow students.
